Acoustic panels are usually made from a sound absorbing foam covered in material. These are permanently fitted to walls or ceilings to provide a level of acoustic control.
Sound is caused by vibration. Vibrations coming through the air into your ears cause the eardrum to vibrate and we hear a sound. In an unmodified building, sound vibrations bounce off hard surfaces, such as plaster walls. This means a room with a lot of talking going on, such as a cafรฉ, has a lot of ambient noise in it from all of those conversations bouncing off hard surfaces in an uncontrolled manner โ this is an example of poor acoustics.
Acoustic panels improve this by usingย acoustic foam which takes unwanted sound vibrations out of the environment.
